Following Yonder Star by Kelly Moreland The kiss ended as slowly as it began and they both glanced down at William; laying still and quiet in his father's arms. Scully reached to take him, but Mulder pulled back. "Not a chance. I want to hold him for a while. You've held him for nine months, it's my turn now." "I really need to put him down, Mulder. You can hold him after he wakes up," Scully said with a hint of a smile. "What, he can't fall asleep with me holding him?" Mulder countered, "Besides, you need to open the gifts the three wise men brought," he lifted his chin toward the table by her bedroom door. "The three wise men?" Scully asked, walking over and picking up the presents from the table. "C'mon Scully, surely you noticed the similarities," he said, settling in on the couch with William. "Apparently not since I have no clue what you're talking about," she sat down beside him with the gifts in her hands. "The light in the sky, the humble birthing place, and if one of those doesn't contain frankincense or myrrh, I'll be amazed." "Mulder," she laughed, "I know you're proud of your son but don't you think you reaching a little?" "Reaching a little is what I do best, and you have to admit there are a lot of similarities," he said softly, tucking one end of the blanket a little closer around the baby. "He's not the savior," Scully laughed as she opened the first box. "He may not be *the* savior, but we both know he's our salvation." Scully couldn't argue that point, and instead held up the first gift. "It's from Byers," she grinned, showing Mulder the book entitled 'Investing for your child's future.' Mulder chuckled softly, as not to wake his sleeping son. Scully opened the second present and smiled. "Leave it to Frohike," she said, holding up a five hundred dollar gift certificate for 'Babies R us'. "That'll go quick," Mulder sighed. It hadn't taken him but one trip to the store to understand the economics of 'baby retail'. Scully opened the last gift and sat staring at it silently. "Well?" Mulder asked after a moment. "It's... It's incense. Aroma therapy..." William startled, but didn't wake as his father burst out laughing. ~Finis
